Will the Afterlife Be Spent in Heaven?

Most believers, myself included, were taught that salvation means we will live the next life “up in Heaven.”

We’ve all heard about Heaven: Pearly gates; streets of gold; river of life flowing from the throne of God. The trouble is, the Biblical description people have attributed to “Heaven” is actually a description of the New Jerusalem (Revelation 21-22) which comes down FROM Heaven TO the earth.

When God created man, did He place him on Heaven or on the Earth? Was the Earth not made for man to dwell on? After creating the Earth and every living creature on it, God saw that it was very good (Genesis 1:31). Obviously, it met with God’s approval that man dwelt on Earth. Of course, the devil came along and ruined what was perfect.

But once the devil meets his ultimate fate, there will be a new Heaven and a new Earth (Rev. 21:1). Why would God renew the Earth unless He intends to let men live on it again, as He originally intended? Man restored to all that Adam had, that is.

Author: Elijah Dispatched

I never doubted the existence of God. I thank my parents for that. Even so, most of my life could be summed up as a shameful rebellion against Him. Still, even when living like a reprobate heathen, I still occasionally studied the Bible. I found it just as confusing and seemingly contradictory as most people, yet I could also discern there was power in it, and truth beyond my finite reckoning. After finally admitting to my Creator, "You are God and I am not," my study of the Bible became a bit more intensive. I have learned much, and will learn much more. I plan on sharing some of that here.
