“Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the great and awesome day of the LORD comes. And he will turn the hearts of fathers to their children and the hearts of children to their fathers, lest I come and strike the land with a decree of utter destruction.”
Malachi 4:5
This prophecy is given in the last chapter of the Old Testament. It makes sense, then, why those with scriptural knowledge wondered if Jesus was Elijah, come back to fulfill this prophecy (Matthew 16:14; Mark 6:15; 8:28; Luke 9:8, 19: John 1:21, 25).
Some of Jesus’ remarks reveal that John the Baptist was a “type” of Elijah. However, I am convinced that Malachi’s prediction concerns a literal return of Elijah which is yet future. I’m equally convinced that his return is in our very, very near future, closely preceding the return of our Lord, Jesus the Messiah.
In fact, I believe Elijah has already been dispatched.
I’m gonna try to keep my blog entries short, but for those who can handle in-depth detailed studies, check out my pages. My discussions of the judgments wound up going almost verse-by-verse.
…Woe. That’s all I can post right now.
…get back later. Looks like we may need to communicate. There is so much upon me that normally is not spoken of.
